Moroccan Authorities Bust Copper Theft Ring Targeting US Export Market

The royal gendarmerie in Sidi Bennour dismantled a network specialized in the theft of copper cables. Highly equipped and well-organized, the criminal gang also proceeds to the transformation before the export abroad of the loot.
The facts date back to September 2 when the elements of the royal gendarmerie arrested a truck transporting 18 tons of copper cables in the locality of Ouled Amrane. This quantity of copper was hidden under aluminum plates. This was with the intention of misleading the road checks at the police and gendarmerie checkpoints. The search of the truck allowed the seizure of 42,000 Dh intended to corrupt the agents of the brigade, affirms the driver during his interrogation.
Once the copper cables are stolen, this criminal organization proceeds to their transformation thanks to a company located in Ain Harrouda based in Casablanca. Thus, the investigation conducted by the royal gendarmerie brigade made it possible to know that the network is composed of several members as well as the owner of a warehouse not to mention a fifty-year-old who are currently being sought in the Ouled Amrane area.
The same investigation led to the seizure of 22 tons of copper cables destined for the United States of America according to the driver’s statements. For the record, this investigation will allow the gendarmerie to know the modus operandi of this gang and the people involved. Also, several bands of copper cable theft have already been dismantled by the royal gendarmerie, notes the daily Al Akhbar.
