Moroccan Authorities Arrest Belgian-Syrian Fugitive Wanted by Qatar for Financial Crimes

A 60-year-old Belgian citizen of Syrian origin was apprehended at the port of Tanger Med, Morocco, as he was disembarking from a ferry from Spain.
The Moroccan authorities discovered that he was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by Qatar for his alleged involvement in financial offenses.
The arrest was made following an identity check in the Interpol database, which revealed a red notice against him. This notice, issued at the request of the Doha national central bureau, aimed to execute a prison sentence imposed on him.
The suspect was brought before the competent prosecutor’s office and the extradition procedures to Qatar are underway. This arrest demonstrates the commitment of the Moroccan security services to international cooperation in the fight against transnational crime.
