Moroccan Argan Oil Industry Faces Growing Global Competition

The argan tree, produced mainly in the Agadir region, is a Moroccan wonder that faces Israeli competition.
Morocco Jewish Times highlights the benefits of Moroccan argan oil for food or cosmetics. For ages, the Amazigh woman has used it to prepare dishes (Tagine, couscous...) or as a beauty product (cosmetics), writes the media. This oil also has medicinal virtues. It is used in the treatment of rashes and other diseases, skin infections, etc.
"If nature has given goods like oil and phosphate to certain lands, then it has given the argan tree to Morocco," the same media points out. If the United States, Mexico have not been able to grow the argan tree on their lands, this is not the case for Israel. This country produces Moroccan argan in the Negev and Araba regions, a production ten times greater than that of the kingdom, the site indicates. Result: Israel is Morocco’s first competitor. However, the kingdom manages to export its product. France alone imports 78% of its production.
