Moroccan-American Progressive Falls Short in Massachusetts Congressional Primary

The Moroccan-American Democratic candidate, Ihsane Leckey, lost the race for the US Congress, finishing fifth in the preliminary elections held on Monday in the state of Massachusetts.
In total, nine candidates had participated in the Democratic primaries to take the seat of Joseph Kennedy. The latter had just suffered a historic defeat in Massachusetts.
Ihsane Leckey’s defeat, who finished fifth, is a blow to the progressive movement of the Democrats. The party had hoped to strengthen its position in the House of Representatives, especially after the victory of two other candidates in New York and Missouri.
The Moroccan-origin candidate had pledged to provide medical coverage to the entire population, to address climate change, and to strengthen gun control measures.
