Moroccan-Algerian Border March Planned as Citizens Push for Reopening

Calling for the opening of the Moroccan-Algerian borders, Internet users have launched a call on Facebook to organize a march along the Saïdia border post on Monday, July 22, 2019.
The call was addressed to Moroccan and Algerian citizens to participate massively in this march which will take place at 11 p.m. The activists insist on the opening of the borders closed since 1994. This opening should take place in favor of the citizens of the two countries, especially after the recent celebration by the supporters of the two countries of the qualification of the "Fennecs" for the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) in Egypt.
"It is time for the peoples to express their desire to see the borders opened, in the interest of the two peoples". The activists’ message came at the same time as Moroccan citizens flocked to the border post to congratulate the Algerians on the qualification of the Algerian team.
On both sides of the border, Moroccan and Algerian citizens waved slogans calling for the opening of the borders. "Brothers, brothers, not enemies". These demonstrations were not limited to Saïdia but reached Oujda and other border towns.
