Moroccan Airports See Record 11% Surge in Passenger Traffic, Topping 25 Million in 2019

An 11% increase was observed in air traffic at Moroccan airports in 2019. This is equivalent to 25,059,840 passengers. A record!
According to data published by the National Airports Authority (ONDA), the same trend was also recorded in international traffic. Here, in particular, there were more than 22 million passengers, with an increase of 9.80%.
Regarding air traffic with Europe, ONDA indicates that at this level, some 17,464,911 passengers were welcomed in 2019, representing more than 79% of international air traffic. This is equivalent to sustained growth of 10.82%. In this same chapter of growth, growth rates were also recorded in the North American (+16.89%), Maghreb (+6.78%), Middle and Far East (+4.42%) and Africa (+4.29%) segments.
Moreover, Mohammed V Airport, which alone accounts for more than 41% of total air traffic, recorded, during the same period, 10,306,293 passengers with a progression of around 5.88%, notes the MAP, specifying that strong growth was observed at the airports of Dakhla (+26.73%), Marrakech (+21.13%) and Tangier (+20.07%).
On another note, an increase of 10.84%, equivalent to 210,419 movements, was observed in aircraft movements, while during this time, the same source indicates, a slight decrease of 0.6%, equivalent to 236,454 aircraft movements, was recorded in the traffic of commercial aircraft that overflew Moroccan airspace.
For its part, air freight achieved one of the best performances in 2019, with sustained growth in 2018 (+8.89%) to reach 96,074.91 tons compared to 88,230.70 tons in 2018.
