Moroccan Airline Overwhelmed as Thousands Rush to Book Repatriation Flights

Hundreds of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) stranded in Morocco due to the lockdown decreed since mid-March, rushed to the agencies of the national airline, Royal Air Maroc, to register on special flights, after saturation of the dedicated website for booking.
According to a source within the company, it is the saturation of the website where online reservations have been made since July 10 that has led to this situation. "In 24 hours, more than 16,000 bookings, including 50% on the Casablanca-Paris axis in both directions and 40% on the first 3 days, have been recorded," it is said.
"There will be room for everyone and the flight program will be established according to demand," we are reassured.
The special flights that started this Wednesday, July 15, are subject to certain conditions required by the Moroccan authorities. They are reserved for Moroccan citizens (tourists stranded abroad, students or residents abroad and their families) as well as for citizens of other nationalities residing in Morocco. As for flights departing from Morocco, they are open to Moroccans residing abroad as well as to citizens of other nationalities.
In addition, students enrolled in foreign universities, businessmen and citizens called to travel for health reasons, and foreigners residing in Morocco, must obtain a special authorization from the prefecture of their province.
It should be remembered that all passengers are required to present their PCR test results of less than 48 hours and the serological test at check-in. Children under 11 years of age are exempt from these tests.
