Moroccan Activists Push for Death Penalty Abolition at Global Congress

The fight against the abolition of the death penalty is still topical in Morocco. This is evidenced by the recent participation of Moroccan networks and activists against the death penalty in the 8th World Congress held in Berlin from November 18 to 25.
The network of parliamentarians against the death penalty in Morocco organized a press conference during which the actions taken for the abolition of the death penalty were reviewed. According to Nouzha Skalli, coordinator of the Network of Parliamentarians against the Death Penalty in Morocco, the fight against the death penalty is "a deeply humanistic cause, a human rights issue as stated in Article 20 and 21 of the Moroccan Constitution, which declares that the right to life is the fundamental right of every human being," reports Hespress.
By participating in the 8th World Congress against the Death Penalty, Moroccan activists had the opportunity "to share their experiences and note that many countries in the world have already abolished this penalty." "Our goal is for Morocco to vote in December for a moratorium on the execution of the death penalty and also to abolish it in all its legislation. We hope that 2023 will be the year when Morocco will take this decisive step of abolishing the death penalty," she stressed.
