Moroccan Activists Launch Social Media Campaign to "Free Public Beaches" from Illegal Rentals

Umbrella and table rentals continue to dictate their law on Moroccan beaches, despite the security campaigns launched by the authorities to free up certain beaches. A situation denounced by activists and citizens on social networks.
Faced with the persistence of the phenomenon of umbrella and table rentals that illegally occupy Moroccan beaches, leaving no space for vacationers, activists and citizens have launched a campaign on social networks to demand the "liberation of public beaches". Internet users are calling for a boycott of these illegal facilities to discourage these practices, reports Hespress.
These umbrella renters illegally occupy public space "and violate the rights to use common living spaces," condemns Abdelhamid Haddad, general coordinator of the Tamkine Association in Kenitra, calling on the authorities to "intervene using all the means at their disposal, as guarantors of respect for the law."
This illegal occupation of public space creates insecurity, he adds, explaining that the obstruction of part of the boulevard by a cafe forces pedestrians to descend onto the road, which could lead to traffic accidents, in addition to degrading the beauty of beaches and public spaces.
To put an end to the anarchy on the beaches, vacationers are asking for national regulation of this activity, strengthened price control and the possibility of choosing between renting these spaces or freely settling on the beaches. This, in order to preserve the aesthetics of Moroccan beaches and guarantee citizens the respect of their rights to fully enjoy public spaces.
