Moroccan Activists Launch Online Boycott Against Soaring Food Prices During Ramadan

On the web, Moroccan activists have launched a vast campaign to boycott several food products due to their high prices. Moroccans are suffering from the high cost of living this Ramadan month.

Inspired by the very successful initiative launched by a young man from Marrakech named Abdelilah, which revealed a dishonest manipulation of fish prices, Moroccan activists on social networks are calling for a vast campaign to boycott several products, including chicken, eggs, meat and vegetables, in order to bring prices down to more affordable levels for consumers.

According to the initiators of the campaign, these products have become excessively expensive for many Moroccan families, especially during this Ramadan month, when food consumption increases significantly. They hope that their initiative will help reduce the price of eggs to one dirham and that of chicken meat to less than 14 dirhams per kilo.

Social media activists are urging all Moroccans to participate massively and effectively in this boycott campaign. They are convinced that the commitment and patience, the same strategy that worked to challenge fish prices, can be applied to other essential consumer goods that have experienced unjustified price increases.

At the beginning of the Ramadan month, Morocco activated the national helpline "5757" for consumer complaints and observations, in order to respond to concerns about food prices, which particularly affect the essential products that feature prominently on Iftar tables.
