Moroccan Activist Sentenced to 2 Years for Criticizing Government, Inciting Crime

Convicted of "contempt of constitutional institutions, insults to a constituted body and incitement to commit a crime," activist Noureddine Aouaj was sentenced Thursday to two years in prison by the court of first instance in Casablanca.
Noureddine Aouaj had been prosecuted after his arrest on June 15 during a sit-in on the sidelines of the trial of journalists Omar Radi, Imad Stitou and Soulaimane Raïssouni.
After being heard by the prosecutor at the end of 48 hours of custody, this figure of the February 20 movement was directly presented to the judge. The sentence was pronounced, the activist will spend the next two years in detention.
