Modi's African Odyssey: India's PM Kicks Off Global South Tour in Morocco

Narendra Modi, the Indian Prime Minister, will soon travel to Morocco where he will meet with King Mohammed VI. This trip will mark the first stage of his international tour in Africa, Latin America and the Middle East.

Narendra Modi will travel in early July to five countries in Africa, Latin America and the Middle East - Morocco, Argentina, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago and Jordan - with the aim of consolidating India’s leadership within the Global South and promoting an international coalition against terrorism. Morocco will mark the first stage of this international tour. The visit to Rabat has been in preparation for several years but has been postponed several times for scheduling reasons, according to The Economic Times. The highlight of this trip will be a meeting between King Mohammed VI and the Indian Prime Minister. The goal will be to strengthen a rapidly evolving bilateral relationship.

According to the Indian media, Morocco is asserting itself as a regional center of influence, at the crossroads of West Africa, Southern Europe and the Arab world. The kingdom, which maintains strong ties with several African and European countries, offers India a strategic foothold on the African continent, as part of its diplomacy in the Global South. Rabat and New Delhi have multiplied exchanges in the sectors of security, agriculture, renewable energy and phosphates, a key area for India’s food security.

"India and Morocco share a proven and resilient partnership, based on deep mutual respect, strategic convergence and a common quest for the well-being and prosperity of our citizens," declared a senior diplomat from the Indian embassy in Rabat in an interview with Morocco World News last May.
