Moderna Vaccine Shows Promise Against UK and South African COVID-19 Variants, Company Says

Faced with growing concerns in some countries, including Morocco, about the ability of the vaccination campaign to cope with the British and South African variants of the coronavirus, Moderna is reassuring. In a press release, the pharmaceutical company states that its vaccine retains its neutralizing capabilities against these two variants.
Moderna has announced that its Covid-19 vaccine was eliciting, in laboratory studies, the production of antibodies against the coronavirus variants identified in the United Kingdom and South Africa, which are beginning to spread in some countries. According to the press release from the American pharmaceutical laboratory, the administration of two doses of the vaccine will be sufficient to ensure protection against the emerging variants detected. On Wall Street, Moderna’s stock jumped up to 5.4% in pre-market trading after these announcements.
However, it indicates that it will test a booster dose of the vaccine against the variant identified in South Africa as part of pre-clinical trials in order to measure its effectiveness. It must be said that scientists are quite concerned about the emergence of the variants identified in the United Kingdom and South Africa, as they seem capable of modifying key functions of the virus.
