Miracle Rescue: Donkey Saved from Morocco Quake Rubble After 7 Days

Aided by a British rescue team, an animal welfare organization has rescued a donkey, one of the victims of the violent earthquake that struck the Al Haouz region, who had been trapped for seven days under the rubble.
Not all animals will have had this chance. A donkey remained trapped for a week in the rubble in Imi N’Isli, one of the many villages devastated by the powerful earthquake on September 8. The British ISAR (International Search and Rescue) team, which was in the village to support the earthquake victims, helped the Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad (Spana) to rescue the animal in distress. Only a small area allowed access to the collapsed building where the donkey was.
"After a thorough assessment and in-depth discussions with our SPANA veterinary team, a rescue plan was put in place. Two hours later, the British ISAR team, our vets and a very lucky donkey emerged from the ruins to enthusiastic applause and were reunited with the relieved animal’s owner," the organization reports on its website. Once extracted from the rubble, the donkey was taken care of by the Spana team.
