Millions in Cash Vanish During Armored Transport from Moroccan Mint to Central Bank

During a fund transfer operation, from Dar As-Sikkah to the Central Bank of the Northern Axis, located in Tetouan, twelve million dirhams simply disappeared, stolen we don’t know how yet.
The media Assabah, source of this information, explains that the missing funds, freshly manufactured by Dar As-Sikkah, were stolen during a transfer operation. This happened on board an armored vehicle specialized in cash transportation and always under heavy escort. Tetouan was the final destination, for a convoy that also passed through the Kenitra, Larache and Tangier axes.
It was in Tetouan that the theft was discovered, one of the managers having noticed that the weight of the money crates was lower than it should have been. He then asked for the money to be counted. This was done and revealed that 12 million had disappeared while the crates were (still) sealed as they should be.
An investigation has been opened by Bank Al Maghrib and the gendarmerie to shed light on this whole affair and define the reasons and responsibilities of each in this theft. The fact that this case of missing money is not the first but only the first to be discovered is a hypothesis that is not ruled out.
Update: The central bank acknowledges the disappearance of funds but speaks of 1.2 million dirhams and not 12 million dirhams.
