Milan Edge Tottenham 1-0 in Champions League Round of 16 First Leg

The Spanish-Moroccan striker Brahim Diaz, on loan from Real Madrid to Milan, scored the only goal of the match against Tottenham on Tuesday in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16.

Brahim Abdelkader Díaz gave Milan the win against Tottenham (1-0) with a goal scored as early as the seventh minute of play. With this goal, the 23-year-old Spanish-Moroccan striker gives his team the advantage for the return leg which will be played on Wednesday, March 8 in London. Brahim has seen all the colors since his arrival at Milan where he wears the "10", a number worn before him by stars like Clarence Seedorf, Carlo Ancelotti (current Real Madrid coach) or Gianni Rivera, the third all-time top scorer for the club.

The native of Malaga has already played more than 100 matches. But his goal against Tottenham on Tuesday is his second in 14 Champions League matches (10 with Milan, 3 with Manchester City and 1 with Real Madrid). The first dates back to September 15, 2021, during a group stage match against Liverpool at Anfield (3-2). However, the young player has just achieved a feat, the last goal for Milan in the Champions League round of 16 dating back to March 11, 2014, a goal scored by Kaká against Atlético de Madrid (1-4).

And that’s not all. Brahim’s goal against Tottenham is also the first for the "Rossoneri" in the Champions League since 2011, when Brazilian Pato scored against Barça after 25 seconds of play in the group stage. It is also the fastest goal for the Italian club in a knockout match since 2010, when Ronaldinho scored against Manchester United in the 3rd minute of play, according to data analyst "MisterChip" on his Twitter account.

Brahim arrived at Real Madrid during the winter transfer window of 2019, from Manchester City for 17 million euros. He has barely played 21 matches with this club, during which he has only scored two goals (one in La Liga and one in the Copa del Rey). In the Champions League, he only played a few minutes against the Belgian club Bruges. His contract with the Merengue club runs until June 30, 2025. The Spanish-Moroccan player hopes to finish his loan contract and return to Madrid by the end of the season. His name is also mentioned in the Moroccan team.
