Migrant Boat Tragedy: 18 Moroccan Youth Drown En Route to Canary Islands

Eighteen young migrants, mostly from Kasba Tadla, perished in the sinking of their boat heading to the Canary Islands, plunging the entire city into mourning.
This tragedy comes to a halt the election campaign that is in full swing in the region, reports the newspaper Al Massae, adding that several political parties have decided to temporarily suspend their activities in solidarity with the families of the victims.
According to the accounts, the inflatable boat that left Agadir to reach the Canary Islands capsized, causing the drowning of all its occupants, including 8 girls and 10 boys native to the Kasba Tadla region.
Faced with the outrage, the Democratic Left Federation (FGD) party expressed its sadness on its Facebook page. "The FGD presents its condolences to the families of the victims who, it says, chose the death boats to flee the misery they suffered in their country and particularly in their city."
In the same vein, the leadership of the Unified Socialist Party (PSU) did not mince words in accusing the local development programs that do nothing to prevent these tragedies. "We must stop playing with the lives of our children, wasting public money, promoting corruption and enriching the rich at the expense of these young martyrs," it wrote.
