Midwife Commits Suicide at Moroccan Hospital Amid Mental Health Struggles

On duty at the Bab Berred hospital center in Chefchaouen, a midwife committed suicide with rat poison on Wednesday, November 27, 2019.
Despite all attempts to save her life, she succumbed before the arrival of the emergency services, reports the newspaper Al Akhbar.
She suffered from psychological disorders. This is evidenced by the health certificates from several psychiatric centers that she held.
The midwife, originally from Rabat, also complained about the deductions observed on her salary due to her numerous and repeated absences, according to the testimonies collected on site by the daily.
An investigation has been opened on the instructions of the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of First Instance of Chefchaouen and an autopsy has also been ordered.
