Meknès Treasurer Indicted in $200,000 Municipal Embezzlement Scandal

The treasurer of the municipality of Meknès has just been indicted for his alleged involvement in a case of embezzlement of tax revenues, forgery and use of forgeries. The individual is suspected of having embezzled more than 2 million dirhams.
Inspection missions, initiated by the Ministries of the Interior and Finance, had reported embezzlement at the level of the tax revenues of the municipality.
During the audit mission, numerous anomalies were noted in the accounting records of the municipality, the site Akhbarona points out. The employee did not declare the full amounts paid by taxpayers.
The treasurer was not the only one to benefit from the tax revenues of the local authority, continues the same source. Two other employees, who had been subject to disciplinary sanctions for the embezzlement of the sum of 1.9 million dirhams, were ordered to repay the amount.
