Massive 5.7-Ton Hashish Bust in Catalonia Reveals New Moroccan Drug Route

The Civil Guard seized 5.7 tons of hashish (worth around 10 million euros) in Catalonia, considered the new gateway for this drug from Morocco to Spain. It is one of the largest seizures of hashish made in the coastal city.
The investigation that led to this major seizure was opened in 2019, after civil guards in Barcelona arrested a vehicle on the AP-7 motorway, passing through Valencia, loaded with 500 kilos of hashish. After monitoring this network and making several seizures, the agents managed on August 30 to get their hands on a cargo of 4.5 tons of hashish on a beach in Sitges (Barcelona) and arrest 17 people, reports ABC, adding that two war weapons (assault rifles) and three small caliber weapons were also seized.
The police pressure led by the Spanish security forces in the strait is pushing drug traffickers to look for "less risky places" to continue smuggling drugs from Morocco into Spain, explained this Wednesday José Luis Tovar, head of the Civil Guard of the Catalonia region. For two years, the armed institute had warned that the Catalan coast would supplant Andalusia and become the gateway for Moroccan hashish to Europe.
