Massive 60-Meter Crater Emerges in Morocco Following Devastating Earthquake

After the powerful and devastating earthquake of September 8 that shook Morocco, a giant pit has formed in a rural area. Did the earthquake contribute to its formation?
A chasm has suddenly appeared on the outskirts of El Jadida after the earthquake. Enough to terrify the inhabitants. It is a crater of about 60 meters, with a width exceeding 20 meters. Stunned, the owner of the land where the chasm appeared alerted the local authorities. Arriving on the scene, the security forces decided to surround the chasm with a fence before the necessary tests could be carried out.
In late February, a similar chasm formed in Turkey. A huge chasm opened in the ground, 37 meters in diameter and 12 meters deep in the Turkish province of Konya, located in the central Anatolian region. According to Turkish experts, the crater predated the earthquake, but the inhabitants only noticed it later.
"The chasm appeared about 20 days after the major earthquakes. Maybe it was ready to collapse and could have formed during the earthquake," said Professor Fetullah Arik, director of the Obruk Research and Application Center at Konya Technical University (KTÜN). It remains to be seen whether the chasm that appeared on the outskirts of El Jadida is related to the violent earthquake that struck Morocco on the night of September 8.
