Massive Forest Fire in Morocco’s Ouezzane Province Destroys 270 Hectares

In the rural communes of Zoumi and Mokrisset under the province of Ouezzane, around 270 hectares of forest have already gone up in smoke. Efforts continue to bring the fire under control.
Faced with the increasingly worrying situation, the authorities claim to have strengthened the human resources and the land and air intervention mechanisms, in order to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to the neighboring residential areas.
According to the provisional assessment, 270 hectares of forest cover have been decimated, local sources said, adding that no loss of human life has been recorded so far.
The same sources added that another fire broke out on Friday noon in the Jbel Moulay Abdelkader forest, in the commune of Zoumi. The intervention teams, made up of elements from the local authority, the Royal Gendarmerie, the Auxiliary Forces, the Royal Armed Forces, Civil Protection, the water and forestry agents and volunteer residents, mobilized to prevent the spread to inhabited areas. So far, these fires have affected about 5 hectares of wooded area.
