Massive Drug Bust: 6.3 Tons of Cannabis Seized at Morocco-Africa Border Crossing

The Moroccan police services, in a joint operation with the customs services operating at the El Guerguarat border post, south of Dakhla, proceeded on Friday to the seizure of 6.3 tons of cannabis resin. The goods were hidden in an international transport truck heading to an African country.
It was through a simple border control and search procedure that the security forces were able to seize this amount of drugs hidden in a cargo of cardboard, on board a truck registered in Morocco, according to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
The truck driver was arrested and taken into custody, pending investigations that could determine his actual involvement in this attempt at cross-border trafficking. The seized drugs were made available to the customs administration.
Despite the state of health emergency, drug seizures have multiplied recently in Morocco. On May 10, the security services of Casablanca had seized an amount of 3.5 tons of cannabis resin on board a road freight transport truck. In 2019, around 179 tons of cannabis were seized in Morocco, according to a recent official report.
