Massive Drug Bust in Morocco: Over $22 Million in Narcotics and Contraband Destroyed

The Al Argoub landfill (Oued Eddahab province) was used as the site for the destruction of a large quantity of drugs seized in recent months by the various security services in the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region. This represents 20.19 tons of cannabis resin and other drugs valued at more than 220.18 million dirhams (MDH).
In addition to the cannabis resin (chira), 12.62 tons of flavored tobacco (maassel), 276,070 packs of cigarettes, 57.9 kg of ground tobacco and 1.2 kg of cannabis (Kif) were also incinerated, according to the inter-regional Customs Directorate of the South. The destruction also includes 10,000 coffee capsules, 4,013 bottles of veterinary medicines, 11,250 boxes of medical tablets and 8,300 boxes of aphrodisiac products.
The incineration of these various products was carried out in the presence of representatives of the local authorities and the various security services, under the control of the competent public prosecutor’s office. On this occasion, the Customs Ordinator in Dakhla, Taoufik Mohamed Abdouh, indicated that these prohibited products were seized by customs and other security services, during the months of December and January, under the supervision of the representative of the public prosecutor’s office near the court of first instance of Oued Eddahab.
He also stressed that these seizures are part of the relentless fight waged by the security services against drug trafficking and smuggling. Present at this incineration, the deputy public prosecutor of the King near the court of first instance of Oued Eddahab, Hamid Chkirida, noted that in view of the harmful consequences of drug trafficking on the national economy and on the health of citizens, the authorities can only join their efforts for a merciless fight.
