Massive Drug Bust: French Customs Seize 253 Kilos of Moroccan Cannabis on A31 Motorway

Customs officers discovered 253 kilos of Moroccan cannabis resin on board a utility truck registered in Spain traveling on the A31 motorway in Lorraine. The driver - a 43-year-old Moroccan - was arrested, taken into custody and then placed in pre-trial detention. This is one of the largest seizures of the year in France.
On Wednesday, August 20, customs officers carried out one of the largest cannabis seizures of the year in France. During a check at the Loisy motorway service area (Meurthe-et-Moselle) on the A31, they intercepted a small utility truck registered in Spain transporting 40 kilos of drugs packaged in bales.
The occupant of the truck, a 43-year-old Moroccan driver with a Spanish residence permit, was apprehended and taken into custody, reports l’Est Républicain, adding that "he would have claimed to be unaware of the contents of his cargo, which was hidden in fruit packaging". After being presented to the Nancy Judicial Court on Friday, August 22, 2025, he was placed in pre-trial detention. His trial is expected to take place on October 1st.
