Marrakech Tops French Travel Preferences for Fourth Year Running

For the fourth consecutive year, Marrakech is at the top of the favorite destinations of the French in 2024, according to a study by Liligo, in partnership with the Opinion Way polling institute, which announces that the Moroccan city will maintain this position in 2025.
Marrakech and Bangkok will be the most popular destinations for the French in 2025, the study indicates, noting that 72% of the French traveled in 2024, an increase of 2 points compared to 2023. For the fourth consecutive year, the ochre city remained the favorite destination of the French in 2024 with an average round trip of 237 euros per person, a slightly higher amount than the previous year. According to the study, many French respondents traveled by plane (35% compared to 31% in 2023), by car (77% compared to 78%) and by train (29% compared to 32% last year).
"In 2024, more than 7 out of 10 French people traveled. The sector is doing well. We often find the same destinations in the top 10 of the cities most coveted by the French, and it is normal, after having reconnected with travel, the consistency of desires seems logical, by ease, depending on prices or by fashion effect, However, and even if Marrakech retains its first place as the favorite destination for the fourth consecutive year, we are beginning to observe a craze for cities like Bangkok and Djerba, which are making their entry into the top 10..." explains Guillaume Rostand, spokesperson for Liligo, to Air Journal.
In 2025, in addition to Marrakech, Lisbon and Porto are among the favorite destinations close to the French, the study also cites Cairo (Egypt) or Ajaccio, the only French city present in the ranking. "The assessment is positive for 2024 and it seems that in 2025 it will be even more so. [...] If Marrakech remains the favorite destination of the French in 2024 as in 2025, new desires for escape are emerging in Africa or Central/South America. The summer holidays and those of Easter are the vacation periods when travelers will leave the most... 67% of surveyed travelers plan a short stay of 4 days or more and 47% a stay of 15 days or more," details Guillaume Rostand.
