Marrakech Ranks 7th Globally for Food Poisoning Risk, Study Finds

The many complaints recorded by tourists place Marrakech in the global top 10 of destinations with a high risk of food poisoning. This ranking, conducted by the company Sick Holiday, was published by the British Daily Mail.
According to the Kech24 website, the study, which looked at food intolerances recorded across a wide sample of international cities, ranked the ochre city in 7th place, with 83 complaints filed between 2017 and 2018.
The Egyptian city of Hurghada, on the Red Sea coast, tops the ranking with a total of 380 recorded food poisoning complaints, followed closely by Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic with 211 cases, and Riviera Maya in Mexico with 182 cases.
Potentially dangerous bacterial infections, the many reported cases presented similar clinical pictures, with diarrhea and vomiting. Non-compliance with hygiene standards and unsanitary conditions are the main reasons cited by tourists.
At the national level, Marrakech was no exception. Other Moroccan cities have been reported by vacationers to the Sick Holiday company, including Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier and Agadir.
