Marrakech: the police restore the truth about the arrest of a British citizen
The Moroccan police reject the claims of the Daily Mail regarding the imprisonment of a British citizen. The man was not imprisoned for distributing aid, but is being prosecuted at liberty for filming minors without their consent.
The General Directorate of National Security describes the allegations published on Monday evening as completely unfounded. The newspaper, relying on the statements of the accused’s mother, claimed that he had been deprived of his liberty and isolated from his family for a supposed charitable action.

The authorities specify that the police intervention, triggered by reports from citizens, took place on the historic Jemaa el-Fna square. The foreign national was caught filming people in precarious situations under the pretext of distributing material aid.
The real reason for the prosecution concerns a criminal offense. The individual recorded and disseminated images mainly involving minors, who benefit from strict legal protection of their personal data, without the prior authorization of their guardians.
