Marrakech Officials Consider Lifting Travel Authorization Requirement Amid COVID Restrictions

Possibility of access to Marrakech without authorization, this is the new proposal that the authorities of the ochre city are analyzing. This option is part of the easing of health measures imposed in the city.
During the meeting held at the headquarters of the wilaya on Friday, the proposal was laid out and will be analyzed in the coming days. "It’s still not official, but the authorities are studying the idea. Meanwhile, no decision has yet been made by the wali of the region," said a local source to Challenge.ma.
When the city reached zone 2 in the coronavirus crisis, it was placed among the cities that are subject to a special authorization to enter and leave. A rather unsightly situation for the inhabitants who have launched an SOS whose campaign "Marrakech is suffocating" and "save Marrakech" broadcast on social networks.
Learning of the arrival of the first plane of foreign tourists at the Marrakech-Menara international airport, from France with 160 passengers, and the opening of several hotels and other attractions, the virtual demonstrations of the inhabitants of Marrakech have intensified. They believe it is "illogical to allow foreigners to enter the city at a time when Moroccans are still required to obtain a license to enter or leave it," the same source reported.
