Marrakech Official Sentenced to 6 Years for Bribery in Tourism Corruption Case

The head of the economic and social service of the wilaya of Marrakech was sentenced, on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, to 6 years in prison and a fine of 500,000 DH to be paid to the plaintiff for corruption. This is the verdict handed down by the criminal chamber of the Court of Appeal of the ochre city.

Last December, elements of the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) had arrested the head of the service of the wilaya of Marrakech. He had been caught red-handed for corruption in his office, while receiving 12,000 DH as a bribe. This followed the complaint of a tourism promoter who had claimed to have been the victim of blackmail by the civil servant.

What happened next? The public prosecutor’s office mandated the BNPJ elements to hear the victim, before setting up an ambush for the civil servant who fell into the trap, recalls Barlamane.

In court, the judge in charge of the case handed down his judgment. The defendant was sentenced to 6 years in prison for corruption.
