Marrakech Notary Accused of Embezzlement Kidnapped Over Unpaid Debt

A notary detained in Marrakech for embezzling 70 million dirhams from his clients would have been kidnapped and detained by a creditor to whom he owed 860,000 dirhams.
The creditor, the owner of several taxis, is said to have lured the notary to a villa located in a tourist resort where he would have held him captive for a week. The notary was released thanks to the intervention of another notary, reports the daily Al Akhbar.
Arrested in Agadir and then transferred to Marrakech, the notary appears before the Court of Appeal of the ochre city. The judicial police are continuing their investigation to apprehend any accomplices, including the taxi owner, the notary’s secretary and a doctor, the notary’s associate in certain real estate projects.
The taxi owner, summoned by the police, did not show up and disappeared, as did the secretary and the doctor, who is said to be out of the national territory.
