Marrakech Man Sentenced to Life for Brutal Murder of Elderly Victim

The criminal chamber near the Court of Appeal of Marrakech sentenced a 26-year-old man to life imprisonment for brutally killing a septuagenarian before setting his home on fire.
The events took place on the night of Monday, July 26, 2021 in a house located in the El Oulja district under the rural commune of Sidi Abdellah Ghiat, in the province of Al Haouz. The neighborhood had been alerted by smoke rising from the house of a 74-year-old man, reports Aujourd’hui Le Maroc. The young people of the district went to the house to try to extinguish the fire. They found the lifeless body of the septuagenarian, a large part of it burned and his throat slit.
The gendarmes of Chwiter then opened an investigation. It proved fruitful. The investigators discovered that a young man often visited the victim and was at her home before the smoke escaped from the roof of the house. He will be arrested. He will eventually confess that he is the perpetrator of the crime and that he had committed this act following a misunderstanding with the septuagenarian. According to the investigation, the two men were in a homosexual relationship. The young man is sentenced to life imprisonment.
