Marrakech Expands Tourist Security: Over 300 New Surveillance Cameras Planned

The Al Omrane group has decided to relaunch the call for tenders for the implementation of a complementary video surveillance system, in order to further secure the tourist circuit in the old medina.
The first call for tenders launched in the spring of last year was not conclusive according to the group’s officials, who have also revised upwards the planned investment as part of this project, reports Telquel.
For its new ambitions, Al Omrane has mobilized an amount of 20.3 million dirhams, or 2.3 MDH more than last year. An increase that is explained by the number of cameras which has gone from 310 devices, against 223 last year.
It is precisely a matter of installing on the tourist circuit of the old medina of the ochre city, 238 intelligent fixed cameras, 20 PTZ (mobile) cameras, 20 license plate reading cameras, 30 facial recognition cameras as well as two intelligent panoramic cameras.
The new call for tenders also provided for the creation of an international standard data center, located on Jemaâ El Fna square and which will serve as a flow center and image analysis.
