Marrakech Cracks Down on Illegal Tourist Guides: 300 Arrested in January

As part of a campaign carried out in Marrakech, the police arrested some 300 fake tourist guides.
In addition to these 300 fake tourist guides, the Tourist Police Brigade in Marrakech also arrested eight individuals during the same period for "harassment".
These guides who operate illegally are accused of imposing a commission on merchants "each time the tourist buys merchandise in their stores". This situation in turn leads the sellers to increase "the prices offered to tourists" in order to "offset the difference caused by the commission".
To maintain the system as it is and continue the benefits related to their bad practices, the fake guides keep tourist groups away from shops that refuse to pay this fee and take them to stores that collaborate with them, reports the 2M channel.
Arrested for "usurpation of a professional category regulated by law", the accused face sentences ranging from three months to two years in prison.
