Marrakech Cancels New Year’s Eve Events Amid Omicron Surge and Curfew

In Marrakech, the elements of the police and the royal gendarmerie are deployed on the ground to enforce the state of health emergency at the end of this year. The festivities organized on New Year’s Eve in places, hotels and restaurants are prohibited.
Limiting the spread of the coronavirus, especially following the increase in cases of contamination by the new Omicron variant in Marrakech at the end of this year. This is the objective pursued by the public authorities who have mobilized the police and royal gendarmerie services whose mission is to enforce the state of health emergency. All festivities organized on New Year’s Eve in public places, hotels and restaurants had been prohibited with the establishment of a night curfew from midnight to six in the morning.
Installation of checkpoints at the entrance and exit of the ochre city as well as control points on the main arteries, special patrols in charge of monitoring cafes and nightclubs as well as certain farms located on the outskirts of the city, census of apartments and villas likely to be rented during this period to organize New Year’s Eve parties... Since the beginning of this week, the elements of the police and the royal gendarmerie have been ensuring permanent vigilance. They also ensure that restaurateurs respect the preventive measures, in particular the closure at midnight and the reduction of their reception capacity to 50%.
