Marrakech Airport Expansion Begins Ahead of 2025 Africa Cup of Nations

Extension and upgrading works at Marrakech airport are about to start. A call for tenders has just been launched for this purpose.
The Marrakech-Menara airport will undergo extension work to cope with the large influx of tourists, in anticipation of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The duration of the work is set at ten months, according to the call for tenders launched. They concern earthworks for shaping and leveling the strips, milling and reshaping the runway, the parallel taxiway and the BBSG ramps, as well as their reinforcement in BBME, reports Challenge.
Part of the existing pavement will also be demolished for the construction of D 1000 pipe crossings and stormwater drainage work. The competent authorities will ensure the proper execution of these works, in accordance with environmental, health and safety standards. Thus, a 3D laser dynamic survey will be carried out before and after the work on the aeronautical pavements, as well as longitudinal evenness and friction coefficient tests will be carried out after the completion of the runway work.
The National Agency for Land Conservation, Cadastre and Cartography (ANCFCC) of the Marrakech-Safi region, in coordination with the local authorities and regulatory bodies, will ensure the diligent execution of these airport extension works in Marrakech, which are about to start. Meanwhile, the construction of a second airport in Marrakech, in the commune of Sidi Zouine, seems to have been postponed indefinitely.
