Marrakech Airport Car Rental Scams Target Tourists, Industry Group Warns

The National Union of Car Rental Agency Owners in Morocco has informed the authorities in the Marrakech region of the many problems facing professionals in the sector that will have to be resolved before the 2030 World Cup.
In a letter addressed to the governor of the Marrakech region and the general director of the airports, the Union drew the authorities’ attention to the presence of authorized or unauthorized car rental fleets and private cars of certain brokers around the Marrakech-Menara airport, harassing foreign tourists as soon as they arrive in the kingdom.
It is fleets of cars coming from other cities, denounces the association, which recalls that in accordance with the new specifications in force since April 15, rental cars from one city are only authorized to operate in another city if their agencies have a branch in that city, and in no case should they serve the airport.
The National Union of Car Rental Agency Owners in Morocco also mentioned the cases of fraud suffered by foreign tourists in the ochre city, denounced by them in videos widely relayed on social networks. Acts that have caused enormous damage to Marrakech’s tourism sector.
