Marrakech Aims to Boost Heritage Tourism with New Cultural Strategy

The means to be put in place to better enhance heritage tourism, after the tourism recovery, were at the heart of a discussion held on Wednesday in Marrakech. The meeting was organized by the Regional Directorate of Culture of Marrakech-Safi, in collaboration with the Association of Accredited Tourist Guides.
During this meeting, which is part of the new 2021-2022 cultural season, the participants emphasized the very value of the tourist promotion of historical sites that attract more tourists. This meeting was also an opportune moment to listen to and evaluate the recommendations of tourist guides working in heritage tourism, said the Regional Director of Culture in Marrakech-Safi, Azzouz Boujamid, adding that the restoration of tourist sites and monuments also represents a source of attraction for tourists.
As for Mohamed El Jabri, from the Association of Accredited Tourist Guides, he emphasized the importance of cultural heritage in the development of a sector that represents nearly 7% of the national GDP. As part of the program of this meeting, a field visit to the El Badi Palace took place, in addition to the presentation of the book "Archaeological artifacts related to water management in the sites of the Koutoubia Mosque, the El Badi Palace and the Sidi Bou Othmane reservoirs" by Hasna El Haddaoui, curator of the El Badi Palace.
Regarding the 2021-2022 cultural season, several activities are planned, including ethnographic exhibitions, seminars, conferences, exploration visits in addition to the signing of books and publications related to heritage. There will also be a visit to the "Tasghimout" fortress and the historical site of "Ghmat" on July 14.
