In Morocco, tourist accommodation establishments recorded 1.7 million overnight stays in January 2024, representing an 8% year-on-year increase. Three cities captured 70% of the total overnight stays during the period.
This upward trend is driven by a 3% increase in domestic tourism and 11% in international tourism. Overnight stays in Marrakech, Agadir and Casablanca experienced a significant increase in January 2024 compared to the same period in the previous year 2023, according to the National Tourism Observatory.
While overnight stays increased by 12% in Marrakech, from 618,497 in 2023 to 692,525 in 2024, they grew by 17% in Agadir, reaching 418,716 in 2024 compared to 359,249 a year earlier. In Casablanca, there is a slight increase of 1%, with 138,359 overnight stays compared to 137,086 in 2023.
The trend is variable in other cities of the kingdom. The number of overnight stays fell by 9% and 17% in Tangier and Fez, respectively, while it increased by 25% in Essaouira (41,386 in 2024 compared to 33,235 in 2023).
