Morocco: An ambitious plan and "unique" databases to win the 2030 World Cup
"Here is the future of football". This prophecy, formulated half a century ago by Argentine coach Carlos Bilardo during a visit to Casablanca, now resonates with particular acuity. In 1975, after a defeat of his Estudiantes team against MC Oujda, the technician had perceived the latent potential of the Kingdom.
Fifty years later, history seems to prove him right: between the recent world title of the U20s against Argentina, the historic semi-final in Qatar and an ongoing series of 18 wins for the A team, Morocco is emerging as an inescapable power.
This current success is the result of a long-term strategy that touches all levels of national football. Sources close to the Moroccan Football Federation describe a very high level of talent at the base, estimating that half of the young local players would have the skills to play in the lower categories of clubs like Real Madrid or FC Barcelona, writes Ok Diario. To not miss this potential, the country relies on its diaspora in Europe but also on advanced technological development. The Federation has comprehensive databases allowing precise monitoring of players, sometimes superior to that of major European clubs.
Technology and federal centers to aim for the 2030 World Cup
This structuring is orchestrated behind the scenes by Fathi Jamal, an influential figure in local football. The system in place allows the federal authority to exercise technical control over the development of clubs, by monitoring the physical and tactical parameters of the players. The approach is based on vertical detection and the use of four federal centers distributed throughout the country. The best talents are gathered there once a week to train according to a unified game model, before joining their clubs on the weekend.
The ambition of this plan is clearly turned towards the future, with the 2026 World Cup and especially the 2030 edition, co-organized with Spain and Portugal, in sight. The project, which germinated during the Qatar epic, now aims for the supreme title. As observers summarize, Morocco has a football "oil" that it is finally beginning to extract, confirming Bilardo’s visionary vision.
