Morocco: Mandatory moped license and it will be paid

This new license will be accessible for a fee between 200 and 300 dirhams. The objective is to remove financial barriers for users, especially young people, while guaranteeing a training base. The procedure will be considerably simplified: the three-month waiting period is eliminated in favor of an accelerated five-session module, combining theory and practice. This simplification aims to generalize the knowledge of the Highway Code among motorcyclists, while these vehicles are involved in nearly 60% of the deaths recorded nationwide.

The reform is not limited to training. The ministry is working on a legal obligation requiring sellers to systematically provide a protective helmet when purchasing any new motorcycle. This provision aims to equip drivers from the time of vehicle acquisition to reduce the severity of injuries in the event of an accident.

At the same time, the authorities are tightening the screws on the technical compliance of the vehicles. The minister insisted on the adoption of mandatory speed measurement devices. Recent checks have revealed a worrying reality: 95% of the inspected motorcycles had undergone illegal modifications to increase their power. These transformations, which make the vehicles dangerous and unsuitable for their category, will now be targeted to restore the effectiveness of road control.
