Marine Biotoxins Found in Moroccan Shellfish: Authorities Issue Ramadan Warning

Analyses carried out by the National Institute of Fisheries Research (INRH) have detected the presence of marine biotoxins in shellfish from the Ras Kebdana-Nador area. The authorities in the sector have banned their consumption and sale.
The results of the analyses led the maritime fisheries department to ban the harvesting and marketing of seafood in the Nador-Saidia region until the aquatic environment is purified.
The Ministry of Agriculture warns consumers against buying shellfish from unorganized channels, and recommends sourcing from official markets. Only packaged products bearing the health identification labels can be safely consumed.
In a statement, the supervisory ministry draws consumers’ attention to the health risks, and indicates that "shellfish peddled or sold in bulk have no guarantee of wholesomeness and constitute a danger to public health".
