Malaria Outbreak Hits Moroccan Soccer Fans at Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire

Several Moroccans who traveled to Côte d’Ivoire to support the Atlas Lions at the Africa Cup of Nations have claimed on social media to have been infected with malaria, raising concerns among Moroccan supporters.
Moroccan supporters say they contracted malaria despite receiving a vaccine dose upon arrival at the airport. A situation that does not surprise Mohammed Arbaoua, a Moroccan specialist consulted by Hespress, who explains that reactions to the vaccine vary depending on the immune system of each individual.
Faced with this alert, Mohammed Arbaoua has invited Moroccans suspected of being infected with this disease to go to the nearest health center for screening and necessary tests for rapid treatment. Malaria manifests itself with a high fever, accompanied by joint pain, vomiting and abdominal pain.
The specialist has also issued an appeal to Moroccans planning to travel to Côte d’Ivoire or certain countries in sub-Saharan Africa so that they take measures to protect themselves against malaria. He recommends that they take chloroquine or get vaccinated a week before their trip.
