Major changes at Casablanca airport

The Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca is getting a makeover. Adel El Fakir, Director General of the National Airports Office (ONDA), announced on Monday a series of major changes to modernize the airport’s infrastructure and equipment.
First step: the appointment of Hicham Rahil, a veteran of ONDA with twenty years of experience, as director. Holding a doctorate in computer science and applied mathematics, Rahil has notably worked at the Mohammed V and Nador Al Aroui airports.
ONDA has also invested in a brand new baggage handling system to manage the increase in air traffic and comply with international safety standards. A new 3,000 m² area dedicated to transit flights has been created, equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, including explosive detectors and X-ray scanners. This system can process 1,500 bags per hour, thus improving flight punctuality.
Arriving passengers will also benefit from an improved baggage delivery system, with ten conveyor belts, seven of which are brand new. The goal? Reduce waiting times and streamline traffic. A complete renovation of the baggage claim hall is also planned to provide a more comfortable and modern space for travelers.
ONDA wants to make Mohammed V Airport a leading airport platform. These changes aim to improve the customer experience, simplify circuits and reduce waiting times, in anticipation of the 2030 World Cup of Football organized jointly by Morocco, Spain and Portugal.
