Major Belgian Drug Trafficking Suspect Arrested in Morocco

Samir El Y., an Antwerp man in his fifties, was arrested in Morocco a month ago. Nicknamed "Patatje" or "Samir Turtle", he is suspected of international drug trafficking, particularly of ecstasy.
The arrest took place in the Casablanca region. El Y. would also be involved in human trafficking cases.
His name appears in several court cases in Antwerp and Brussels, mainly related to the Sky ECC investigation, recalls Gazet van Antwerpen, which specifies that this large-scale police operation made it possible to intercept and decrypt millions of encrypted messages exchanged by criminals. Many Moroccans were apprehended by the police when these data were decrypted.
El Y., officially domiciled in Borsbeek, had been on the run for several years. He was hiding in particular in Dubai and used the pseudonyms "Dragon" and "Isaac Griffith" on the Sky ECC network.
