Major Anti-Piracy Coalition Shuts Down Illegal IPTV Service in Morocco

The global coalition of audiovisual sector players fighting against content piracy, the Alliance for Creativity Entertainment (ACE), of which the Canal+ group has been a member since 2020, has put an end to the activities of the pirated content platform Electro TV Sat in Morocco. A first.
"The shutdown of an IPTV service in Morocco is a first in the country. This constitutes a real turning point in the fight against audiovisual piracy in the Maghreb and adds to the legal pressure against pirate operators both in Morocco and throughout the region," welcomes the Canal+ group in a press release. Electro TV Sat is accused of being an illegal IPTV service operator and reseller of illegal audiovisual content distribution devices, which was mainly aimed at a French-speaking audience (90,000 visitors per month) since its launch in April 2020. According to the group, it allowed access to 6,000 channels and 200,000 movies and series.
"The impunity of Electro TV Sat’s activity was particularly detrimental" to Canal+, as well as to all audiovisual and sports rights holders. "After several months of work, ACE has succeeded in suspending the activity of the two individuals behind this illegal service. Thus, all the domains of the Electro TV Sat galaxy (4 in total) are now inoperative. This operation adds to another successful ACE action at the beginning of the year, in Tunisia, which led to the closure of the illegal IPTV operator Akfasat (illegal access to 3,500 live channels and more than 26,000 movies and series)," explains the same source.
"The CANAL+ Group has been fighting audiovisual piracy for years and our presence within ACE is a testament to our involvement in this fight. The successive successes of ACE in the Maghreb testify to a new dynamic in the global fight against piracy and will necessarily shake up the sense of impunity of pirate IPTV resellers, which I can only rejoice in. Moreover, the law strengthening the system for combating piracy in audiovisual and sports, which has just been passed in France, is in line with the values defended by the CANAL+ Group," said Céline Boyer, Director of Content Protection at the French Group.
