Magnitude 4 Earthquake Strikes Near Casablanca, Morocco Overnight

Another earthquake in Morocco. An earthquake of magnitude 4 on the Richter scale was felt around 2 a.m. on the night of October 28 to 29, 2023, but not really at the level of Casablanca. No casualties are to be deplored. Less than half an hour later, an earthquake of magnitude 3.5 on the Richter scale was also recorded at the level of the city of Marrakech, without causing any victims.
To recall, an earthquake of 6.8 on the Richter scale occurred in Morocco on September 8, the most powerful to shake the kingdom in a century, according to the National Institute of Geophysics (ING). The latest death toll from the Ministry of the Interior stands at 2,946 dead and 6,125 injured. The earthquake also caused enormous material damage. In total, 60,000 homes in nearly 3,000 villages in the High Atlas and its surroundings have collapsed completely or partially. In view of this impact, Morocco has allocated a budget of 120 billion dirhams over five years for reconstruction, rehousing and socio-economic development of the affected areas.
