Macron to Visit Morocco, Affirming Support for Western Sahara Stance

In line with the warming of relations between Morocco and France, French President Emmanuel Macron is expected in Rabat from October 28 to 30. A visit intended in particular to reaffirm Paris’ support for the Moroccanness of the Sahara.

The program of Emmanuel Macron’s state visit to Morocco is known. Accompanied by his wife, Brigitte Macron, he will arrive in Rabat on October 28 at 5 p.m. local time, and will be welcomed by King Mohammed VI, reports Africa Intelligence. An official ceremony on the esplanade of the Mechouar will be organized at the royal palace. A private interview between the French president and the Moroccan sovereign is also planned for the same evening. A state dinner will then be offered in honor of the French delegation, comprising nearly 150 personalities, including ministers.

The next day, Emmanuel Macron will deliver a speech before the Moroccan Parliament, highlighting the major issues of political and economic cooperation between the two countries. In the evening, he will attend a state dinner at the royal palace. On this occasion, the French president will be awarded the highest honorary distinction of the kingdom. The heir apparent Moulay Hassan will also be honored. He will receive the dignity of Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor from the hands of the French president.

On October 29, the last day of this official visit, Macron should meet the French community living in Morocco. Afterwards, he will head to Rabat airport to return to Paris. He will be accompanied for the occasion by the Moroccan Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch.
