Luxury Villa Scandal: Officials Probed in Moroccan Coastal Land Grab

On the instructions of the Attorney General at the Casablanca Court of Appeal, the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) is conducting an investigation into an anarchic subdivision housing luxury villas and developed on a beach in the southern area of the municipality of Bouznika.
It all started with a complaint filed by municipal councilors. According to them, this subdivision is divided into several plots of land dedicated to the construction of luxury villas, several of which are already completed, reports the Arabic-language daily Al Akhbar. The owners of these houses would be former parliamentarians or former officials, some of whom have registered the properties in the names of members of their family.
Responding to a written question in Parliament, Nadia Fettah, Minister of Economy and Finance, confirmed the alleged spoliation of this land. According to her explanations, this land, which covers 40 hectares, belongs to the State. It houses 520 buildings.
