Libyan Ambassador Threatens Embassy Closure Amid Diplomatic Standoff with Morocco

Nearing the end of his mission in Rabat, the Libyan ambassador to Morocco, Abdelmajid Saif Al-Nasr, persists in not leaving his post.
The Libyan diplomat has threatened to close the embassy and pledge allegiance to the eastern Libyan government, led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, commander-in-chief of the Libyan National Army, if he is forced to leave.
Meanwhile, the Moroccan government has reaffirmed its support for the Government of National Accord (GNA), recognized by the United Nations (UN). The kingdom is a key player in resolving the Libyan crisis.
On December 17, 2015, Morocco had worked for the signing of the peace agreements between the representatives of the General National Congress and those of the House of Representatives in the city of Skhirat.
